Destiny: Second Set Of DLC The House of Wolves Expansion

Over the past few weeks, Bungie has let loose some alleged details regarding the missions and locations available in the expansion, such as a playable social area in the Reef, similar to the Tower. However, it appears that Bungie had already revealed the Reef was a playable area in 2013, during Destiny‘s original announcement.

During Destiny‘s announcement video, Bungie’s co-founder Jason Jones discussed the project the developer had been working on since their departure from the Halo franchise. What followed were a few concept models of Guardians, some in-game footage, and – most importantly – gameplay from within the Reef’s social area.

The short clip shows a Guardian standing in the Reef and panning the camera across, showing off a gorgeous setting, scraps of destroyed ships, and Fallen harmlessly patrolling the walkways. Skip to 1:20 to see the clip.

This clip suggests that Bungie had the Reef, or an incomplete version at least, somewhat playable during Destiny power leveling early development cycle. Either Bungie developed the content and held it for paid DLC later, or they had a rough concept in mind that they would develop at a later point in time.

Either way, the Reef was, at some point in Destiny‘s lifespan, playable, and a conscious decision was made to include it as part of the upcoming House of Wolves expansion pack.

At this point it’s pure speculation as to whether this original idea persisted and became the Reef’s social area – the one included with the House of Wolves expansion – or if it was scrapped along the way, and we receive something entirely different.

Destiny share update introduced a new bug which include maps and weapons changes

The heavy ammo bug has been fixed in the new 1.1.1 update, which also includes new weapon balancing and changes to the weekly heroic strike.

Matchmaking is now mandatory for the missions, while the Iron Banner playlist now contains smaller maps in its rotation.

Bungie promised that changes first planned for Iron Banner events were to be included in the new 1.1.1 update, along with a few extra ideas.

Destiny fans will also see a drop in Special ammunition being dropped by their enemies in the crucible, with Guardians no longer dropping heavy ammunition when killed in PvP.

A fix for a continuing issue in which Xur did not carry exotic engrams in inventory on certain dates was also introduced.

A minor bug has also been introduced to the game through the latest update, Bungie confirmed.

A blogpost from the developers revealed: “A bug was introduced in 1.1.1 patch that caused the Vex Mythoclast to spawn with less ammo in the magazine and reserves in PvP.

“This weapon was affected by overall Fusion Rifle changes because it is treated as a secondary weapon.

“We intend to correct this issue in a future release.”

The next expansion for Destiny: House of Wolves

John Ryan leaves ArenaNet for new writing position at Bungie; developer still has 73 open positions.

Destiny

With lots more Destiny content in the pipeline, developer Bungie is continuing to hire new talent. The latest developer to join Bungie’s ranks is John Ryan, who has left his post at Guild Wars 2 developer ArenaNet to become a “loremaster” for multiplayer shooter Destiny.

Ryan announced the news on Twitter, confirming that today, February 13, is his final day at ArenaNet. He didn’t say when he plans to start at Bungie, but presumably it will be soon.

Ryan is a writing veteran. He spent 5+ years at ArenaNet, working on lore, narrative, dialogue, and more for Guild Wars 2. Prior to that, he held writing positions at Microsoft Game Studios as well as various media publications, including MSNBC.

Bungie isn’t done hiring yet. The Bellevue, Washington-based studio has a total of 73 open positions posted to its website. These span a range of disciplines, including art, design, engineering, production, and others.

The next expansion for Destiny, House of Wolves, is scheduled to arrive sometime during the April-June period. Looking further forward, Bungie also plans to launch a “major content release” for Destiny power leveling this fall. Further still, Bungie is maybe even working on Destiny 2.

Destiny Share Heavy Ammo bug fix and various weapon tuning changes

The next update for Bungie’s online shooter Destiny, which should arrive later this month, will introduce new tweaks to the user interface that should make it easier to check your reputation.

destiny

Writing on Bungie’s website, community manager David “Deej” Dague said many Destiny players have asked for an easier way to check their reputation. Finally, Bungie is delivering such a feature through the upcoming Destiny 1.1.1 update.

Destiny UI designer lead David Candland explained: “We’ve created a way for you to see your faction reputations and weekly marks without having to run from vendor to vendor in the Tower. Now this information is never more than two clicks away.”

“We’ve known we’ve wanted this feature since we donned our first piece of faction class gear, and the community has too,” he added. “It was a no-brainer.”

Dague also teased that Bungie is planning further Destiny power leveling tweaks. The developer is “working on some other ways to change the way you visualize your world in Destiny. Stay tuned,” he said.

Destiny update 1.1.1, which will also introduce a Heavy Ammo bug fix and various weapon tuning changes, will arrive “before the end of February.”

In other Destiny news, we recently learned the release window for the House of Wolves expansion and found out that another “major content release” for Destiny will arrive this fall.

Destiny Share Bungie Reveals Players Missed a Chestin The Vault Of Glass

If you thought you’d discovered everything there is to discover in Destiny power leveling, think again. Bungie have revealed in a Twitch stream that Destiny still houses many secrets – one of which being a Chest still hidden within the depths of the Vault of Glass.

Destiny-Free-Trial

Rob Adams (Lead World Artist), Gavin Irby (Senior Raid Designer), and Eric Osborne joined members of the popular ‘Dads of Destiny’ clan to stream Crota’s End. During the stream, the three representatives of Bungie were drilled hard about the Raids themselves, the nature of their design, and any secrets they may contain.

This piece of information is very interesting, given the Vault of Glass has been open since mid-September – to suggest that players still haven’t found everything inside, and that there’s even another Chest from which to gain all sorts of untold goodies, is unprecedented.

Now that players know about the Chest’s existence, it surely won’t be long until someone finds it. Watch this space.

Bungie’s making it easier to check your rep from Destiny

Bungie continues to tweak and refine Destiny, and one of the changes in the forthcoming 1.1.1 update is going to make a part of the game’s user interface so much friendlier. In a new Bungie weekly update, the developer shows off a welcome new addition to Destiny’s UI, the Reputation Panel.

MediaHandler

The Reputation Panel lets players get a quick look at their current rank and reputation in Vanguard and Crucible, as well as with people and factions like the Cryptarch, Dead Orbit, New Monarchy and more. The panel also shows the current Vanguard and Crucible marks limit, and how close players are to hitting the weekly max. No longer will players need to bounce around the Tower to see their current status with Destiny’s vendors and quest givers.

The addition of the Reputation Panel is going to reduce a lot of time wasted poking around Destiny’s current interface. It also looks like Bungie has taken some fan-suggested UI improvements to heart. Bungie says it’s working on “other ways to change the way you visualize your world in Destiny.”

The Reputation Panel will arrive alongside the heavy ammo bug fix and some weapon tuning changes in the 1.1.1 update. Bungie says it’s still planning on releasing that sometime in February. Bungie says it’s going to touch on what’s in store for Strikes in 1.1.1 in next week’s update.

Destiny: Senior art team publish series of galleries of weapons

David Stammel, a hard surface artist at Bungie, has published nearly thirty high fidelity renders of in-game Destiny items, from exotic sniper rifles to shotguns, Vex weapons, and Fallen arms.

Meanwhile, Bungie’s senior artist Mark Van Haitsma has also published some of his work online. His images, which can be found here, include other in-game miscellany such as turrets and a Hive throne.

Rajeev Nattam, the studio’s art lead for hard-surface models, has published a whole range of images, and in particular has artwork for the game’s unusual and arresting vehicles.

February 13 Xur position: Plan C exotic fusion rifle from Destiny

If one thing Bungie has got right, it’s the replayability features of Destiny. Where Rockstar fails without a weekly GTA V event, Destiny’s Xur location on February 13 ensures that players keep coming back for more and coming back with a smile on their face.

destiny

We know that Xur hasn’t offered the wares that you would have liked the last few weeks, but he did offer the Ice Breaker a few weeks ago and that was a major deal considering it’s still arguably the best weapon in Destiny power leveling right now.

The week just passed, our Agent of the Nine offered the Plan C exotic fusion rifle – you can catch up on the news if you missed that here.

This Friday is another new location though and renewed optimism for many players, as they look to pick up the Gjallarhorn or the equally as impressive Suros Regime.

As always, the Xur location spawn time remains the same – Those on Eastern Time can expect him to appear in the tower at 4am on Friday February 13.

Destiny: These same concepts could easily be applied

After the debacle of The Dark Below expansion’s economy, which reset progress on weapons, the game could honestly use some cohesive form of community feedback that doesn’t involve forums exploding with anger when an update is released and then weeks of grousing about how Bungie should have implemented changes.

destiny

The reactions to the upcoming weapon changes are another example. Destiny players are already complaining about the nerfs to the Auto Rifles and other weapons. A Public Test Server where Bungie could get feedback and real-world data for weapon changes could only be beneficial.

Obviously, the implementation of how to run a Public Test Server for Destiny and who to allow in is up for debate. Microsoft already has the Preview Program running for the Xbox One to make it easier to get feedback from players. The PlayStation 4 could easily deliver updates as well.

“We’re learning and watching and seeing and responding day-in and day-out,” a Bungie representative told GameSpot about learning from mistakes since the game’s launch. “We put this thing out there; we hoped that it would resonate with people. And we’re watching and we’re seeing what’s working and what’s not and trying to adjust. So it’s a passion for us.”

It’s clear that Bungie likes to surprise players with new content. However, when that content is filled with glitches and changes the economy in a way that frustrates players, perhaps it is time to consider a different approach. It may be too late for The House of Wolves expansion that’s scheduled for a second quarter release, but maybe it’s something for Bungie to consider with the Comet expansion in the fall.

Server For Future PlayStation And Xbox Updates From Destiny

Destiny players on PlayStation and Xbox consoles are already familiar with tweaks and changes to the game’s economy, gameplay, and weapons. In fact, Bungie recently detailed a slew of weapon buffs and nerfs coming in the next patch. However, the developer admitted that it has made mistakes in the past and is still learning. Which begs the questions, should Destiny power leveling have an on-going public test server to ensure the changes are well-received by the community?

destiny

Bungie has avoided calling Destiny a massively multiplayer online (MMO) game and has gone with “shared world shooter” in the past. Still, many consider the game to be a MMO or at least a MMO-lite (like myself) and public test servers aren’t uncommon with MMO titles.

For example, The Elder Scrolls Online launched a public test server last June. It is currently being used to test the upcoming 1.6 update which is adding all new functionality like the Justice and Champion Systems plus the Crown Store that is part of the new Buy-to-Play economy. It’s only been out approximately a week and ZeniMax Online has already fixed numerous issues with a 1.6.1 patch. There’s been over 300 suggestions from those who have played on the test server as well.

The idea of a Public Test Server isn’t limited to MMOs either. DICE opened a Community Test Environment for Battlefield 4 Premium Members last year to help its developers iron out issues to the game and make updates to gameplay elements such as movement and weapon balance. Other examples include Diablo III‘s Public Test Realm and World of WarCraft‘s Public Test Realm too.
