Destiny 2 Release Date, News, and Rumors, Expansion House of Wolves

The popular game Destiny has had a lot of success with their initial release and their expansion of The Dark Below.  They will have another expansion this summer with House of Wolves, not to mention the high anticipation of Destiny 2.  Here is what we know of the release date, news, and rumors.

While word of Destiny 2 is scarce at best, there is word about Destiny next expansion, House of Wolves.  According to Gamespot, a Bungie Weekly Update blog post has revealed that “this month, there will come a day when we’ll reveal a release date for the trials that await you, with a whole reef of details soon to follow-but it is not this day”.

However, Gamespot also reports that there is already a massive leak saying that House of Wolves will launch on May 19th, but the official word that House of Wolves will probably launch by the end of June.

The new expansion pack is a follow-up to last December’s The Dark Below.  House of Wolves plans to contain three new Crucible maps, a new Fallen Strike, a new Awoken storyline plus an exclusive raid, as well as hundreds of new weapons, armor, and gear.

“Most of the time, this is awesome. When someone is willing to put in the time as a Raid sherpa, a clan leader, or a forum moderator, we all benefit and Destiny comes a little bit closer to its potential as a shared world.”

Community Manager David Dague also announced that fans are set to find out the release date of House of Wolves later this month.

Destiny: The Newb’s Guide to Being a Hero

Are you new to Destiny? Don’t know what any of this means? Good news! There’s a Destiny wiki that’s packed with information. Click on through for details on what Strikes are, and how Nightfall differs from Weekly Heroic challenges.

It’s that wonderful time when Bungie’s regular offering of high-reward Weekly Heroic and Nightfall Strike missions are rebooted (along with any raid progress made in the previous week), giving everyone a fresh chance at scoring some of the game’s sweetest and rarest loot.

This week’s chosen Strike is the hated Cerberus Vae III mission, in which up to three players hunt down a Cabal general on the sandy surface of Mars. It’s among the lengthier Strikes in Destiny, and it’s also — as Bungie revealed in its April 2 update — one of the most frequently unfinished. So much so that the developer is planning to ease the difficulty in an imminent update.

Sadly, that update hasn’t yet arrived, which means we’re stuck with the same super-challenging gauntlet. Here’s the top-line details for this week, if you just want to know what the modifiers are:

Nightfall

  • Epic – This is a standard Nightfall modifier. It just means there are more enemies to fight, and a greater number of Majors (the yellow health bar dudes) on the field.
  • Nightfall – Another standard Nightfall modifier. This one boots the entire Fireteam back to orbit if everyone is downed inside one of the revive-only respawn Darkness Zones.
  • Lightswitch – Enemy melee attacks do mega-damage. Keep your distance at all times.
  • Angry – Headshots (and high-impact weapons) don’t stagger enemies.
  • Juggler – Ammo only drops for the weapons that you’re not actively using.

Weekly Heroic

  • Heroic
  • Lightswitch

Them’s the basics. But what does it all mean?

This week’s Nightfall is, frankly, a waste. There’s no elemental “burn” modifier like there usually is, meaning you don’t get any damage buffs from your Arc, Solar, and Void weapons. You also don’t take the increased damage from those elements without the burn. That’s nice, but the Strike is still too long and the final boss fight, too tedious.

House of Wolves Release Date Coming Soon from Destiny

The latest weekly update on the Bungie blog indicates gamers won’t have to wait much longer for information, with news regarding a release date expected before the end of the month.

Since “The Dark Below” was released in December, “Destiny” gamers have played and replayed content a thousand different ways. The patient wait for the game’s next major DLC pack, “House of Wolves” continues, but at least fans now know when they can expect more news.

As noted by Gamespot, “The House of Wolves” is believed to launch with a new storyline focusing on the Awoken, an exclusive raid, three new Crucible maps, a new Fallen Strike and new weapons, armour and gear. Gamers who purchased the “Destiny” Expansion Pass will be able to access “House of Wolves” without paying anything extra, while the DLC is available to purchase separately for $20.

“The next expansion for Destiny is something we’re really looking forward to talking about. This month, there will come a day when we’ll reveal a release date for the trials that await you, with a whole reef of details soon to follow – but it is not this day,” read the blog post, by Bungie community manager, Deej.

The tease may seem cruel, but at least gamers will still have the weekly Heroic and Nightfall Strikes to keep them busy. Regular “Destiny” data-miner, Megamanexe4 has spilled the beans on Reddit, indicating gamers are set for a level 24 Heroic Strike mission to the Mars Median Bay for a showdown with Cabal Colossus Ultra; Valus Ta’aurc. Heroic and Lightswitch modifiers will be active, meaning hordes of enemies dealing greater damaged with increased aggression will be the order of the day.

The Weekly Nightfall offers up an even sterner challenge, with a level 30 Very Hard mission featuring Nightfall, Lightswitch, Angry and Juggler modifiers. Destiny power leveling make you upgrade more easy. As always, Nighftall means if the entire fireteam dies, players get kicked back to orbit, Angry sees enemies that don’t flinch even in the face of massive damage, while Juggler means enemies don’t drop ammo for currently equipped weapons.

Players looking for a leg up on Valus Ta’aurc can check out a video hosted on the DPJ – Daily Destiny Videos YouTube channel, which shows Guardians of all classes how to cheese the boss. Players will need to make their way up to a hidden spot in the battle arena, from where they can headshot Ta’aurc with ease, whilst staying behind cover.

That said, experienced players may have no need of the cheese. As noted by Polygon, Destiny aim to make some raid bosses, including Valus Ta’aurc a little easier in the near future. Finally, the developer is also planning on temporarily banning a small number of toxic players from matchmaking. Bungie said the offenders are chronic idlers who who sit idle in competitive and cooperative multiplayer, damaging the experience for others.

Destiny Share Will Bungie keep fans until House of Wolves

The House of Wolves was originally set to hit download markets in March, but was postponed by Bungie and has yet to be given a set release date.

An arrival window has been set between April 1 and June 30, which could mean the release could be set for this month.

However, Other leaks in the past year have suggested that House of Wolves could be released on May 19, and will feature an array of new missions, strikes and Crucible levels.

“All we ask is that you leave your mind open to the evolutions that are inevitable,” community manager David Dague wrote back in February.

“What you see here are very old ghosts from our pre-launch database.

“Aside from giving it a name, Bungie has yet to reveal the House of Wolves. That means that anything you know about it can change.”

The game’s last expansion, The Dark Below, launched on December 9 and a wait until May would certainly leave the title rather barren of new content for gamers.

“I’m glad Iron banner is coming but even what it offers isn’t really worth participating in if you are 32 already. I hope Bungie introduces something new soon.

“I don’t understand why they don’t just add all the story missions to the random strike generator, that would mix things up at least a little. Also a friendly fire option.”

Halo: The Master Chief Collection is another option for fans, now that the matchmaking problems seems to have been put to bed and multiplayer can be enjoyed to its fullest again.

Battlefield Hardline is another option, while GTA 5’s Online Heists could appear as a tempting prospect with those with enough friends and a lot of patience.

House of Wolves meanwhile is reportedly set to include:

  • New Awoken storyline with Raid
  • 3 new Crucible maps and a new Fallen Strike
  • a big range of new weapons, armour and gear

Switching games now for something like Call of Duty may appear to pricey for some gamers, and having put in so many hours into Destiny it would seem certain that the core support are set to stay for the wait.

One fan wrote: “As much as I would like it to come out last week if they take their time and do it right I will be Happy as long as it’s better then the Dark Below.”

Destiny Share May See The Return Of Queen’s Wrath Bounties

“Destiny” may be looking at new bounties in the future, specifically some new Queen’s Wrath Bounties. This is if new unearthed information via data mining is to be believed.

The new findings are courtesy of Redditor THConer. Inquisitr managed to spot the new findings, which hint at the possible return of the event once the “House of Wolves” arrives.

All of these should be taken with a grain of salt. As far as official promises go, Bungie has announced before that it will be dropping one more update before “House of Wolves” hits “Destiny.”

For now, developer Bungie has revealed the details, tweaks and changes that will be set for Inferno mode this week. The Inferno Clash will see some similarities with the Inferno Control mode.

There are 10 maps to be expected for Inferno Clash. These include The Anomaly, Firebase Delphi, Twilight Gap, Rusted Lands, Shores of Time, Bind Watch, Asylum, The Burning Shrine, The Cauldron and Pantheon.

The changes for the new Crucible have been lumped into four main areas of “Destiny.” The first is that there will be no trackers or radars involved when playing. In line with this, Bungie has also limited the Heavy crates per match to just one set. This matches the lack of Tracker for the mode.

As far as scoring is concerned, the Inferno mode will only be about getting kills. So even if players deliver good assists, it’s mostly to aid with teamwork more than anything else. On the topic of teamwork, Bungie Crucible Designer Jeremiah Pieschl also emphasised the importance of communication to push players more towards the winning side of the battle.

Bungie is already preparing a new bounty for “Destiny” players, to be held on April 1, 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Pacific Time for PS4 players. Unlike a couple of gaming April Fools’ pranks, the hunt and reward are real. Those who claim victory will receive a nameplate as pictured in the Bungie blog post here.

The battle will be against the Guardians of Destiny. The team will have two members of Bungie as players.

Nightfall and Heroic Strike Revealed: Punch Sekrion

Sekrion is your main target but as is the case with Nightfall missions, several modifiers are in effect.

These include Angry (enemies don’t flinch), Epic (heavily shielded and plentiful enemies), Juggler (no ammo for your currently equipped weapon), Void Burn (void damage is greatly increased and this works for both you and your enemies) and Nightfall (return to orbit once your entire team dies in a Darkness Zone).

The weekly refresh for Bungie’s Destiny has come and gone, replacing the Weekly Heroic and Nightfall for the week. Last week saw players head to the Summoning Pits to face Phogoth the Untamed but this week, you’ll be going to Venus and visiting the Nexus.

The Weekly Heroic modifiers include Juggler and Heroic (tougher and higher number of enemies).

For the Nightfall, make sure to pack the Word of Crota or Atheon’s Epilogue to deal with mobs. Truth, Against All Odds and other Void heavies along with Swordbreaker and Praedyth’s Revenge will be your best friends. What are your thoughts on the weeklies? Let us know below.

Senior gameplay left Bungie to join Fallout and Elder Scrolls studio from Destiny

Destiny senior gameplay designer Josh Hamrick has left Bungie to join Fallout and Elder Scrolls developer Bethesda. He announced the news on Twitter, expressing gratitude to Bungie, and wishing the developer all the best as it continues to work on Destiny going forward without him.

Hamrick did not announce his exact title at Bethesda, nor did he say what project at the developer he’ll be working on. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim team Betheda Game Studios is currently working on an unannounced game.

Some are suggesting this game may be announced at E3 given that Bethesda is–for the first time ever–holding its own press conference at the show.

During Hamrick’s nearly six years at Bungie, he also worked on the developer’s final Halo title, Halo: Reach. Prior to joining Bungie in 2009, Hamrick worked at Midway Studios Austin on BlackSite: Area 51, among other titles.

Destiny launched in September 2014 and Bungie has continually supported and expanded game since then. The game’s first add-on, The Dark Below, was released in December, while the next expansion–House of Wolves–will be released before the end of June. Bungie is also working on “Destiny 2.”

Will Support PS4’s Suspend/Resume Feature After Patch 1.1.2 From Destiny

Yesterday, Sony released PlayStation 4 firmware 2.50, which added the long pending “Suspend/Resume” feature. This feature will be supported nearly all PlayStation 4 gamers, however PlayStation 4 owners will need to turned it ON manually as it is not Turned ON By Default In Firmware 2.50, and requires PS4 owners to select “Keep Application Suspended” Setting. Check out our guide on how to activate PS4 Suspend/Resume feature.

destiny

Destiny players will have to wait a bit longer to make use of this Suspend/Resume feature on PlayStation 4. According to details shared by Bungie, Destiny will work with the Suspend/Resume feature after the patch coming in April 2015. The message from Bungie reads:

“The PlayStation 4 2.50 Firmware update will implement a Suspend and Resume function on 3/26. This function will not work with Destiny at this time. For the time being, when suspending the game to Rest Mode a message will read: Cannot enter rest mode with the following application suspended. The PS4 will close this application and then enter rest mode.

There will be an icon of the application and then underneath a prompt: “The PS4 will automatically close the application in 30 seconds” with an OK and a Cancel button if you do not wish to close the game.

Functionality for the Suspend and Resume feature will be enabled for the 1.1.2 Update.”

Vault Expansion Was Limited

Sci-fi shooter Destiny will be getting the House of Wolves downloadable content pack soon, and Bungie has revealed more information on the patch players will be getting prior to its release. Detailed on the official Bungie site, the update makes a few tweaks to the game, including increasing players’ in-game vault space.

Update 1.1.2 will increase vault space for weapons from 20 slots to 36, but this required a compromise for PS3 and 360 versions of Destiny.

Update 1.1.2 will increase the vault dimensions for armors and item to 24 slots and for weapons to 36 slots. Prior to this, all vault item spaces were capped at 20 slots each. The expansion of the vault was limited by “memory constraints on older generation hardware,” which required a compromise to expand storage space. For Destiny players on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, the item comparison feature will no longer function in the vault. PlayStation 4 and Xbox One players will remain unaffected.

PlayStation 4 owners are getting the 2.50 Yukimura update today, which introduces a Suspend and Resume function. While Suspend and Resume won’t immediately work with Destiny, the 1.1.2 Update will enable its function.

Patch 1.1.2 will be out in April, before the House of Wolves DLC hits. The update will also bring new audio options, a feature for colorblind players, and various gameplay fixes.

Stats Remind Us Just How Casual Playerbase From Destiny

Just how tiny? Now we have some idea, thanks to a clever fan who decided to show us just how top-tier many of our problems with the game really are.

Redditor btg7471 decided to hunt through his PS4 Destiny trophies and looked at the overall stats on a few of them. The result shows us a rough estimate of how many players have done what in Destiny, and more specifically, what they haven’t done. Here’s the list:

  • Only 31.1% of Guardians have equipped a piece of Exotic gear.
  • Only 23.8% of Guardians have worn Legendary/Exotic armor in every slot.
  • Only 24.2% of Guardians have earned max Vanguard marks in a week, while just 16% have maxed their Crucible marks in a week.
  • Only 23.1% of Guardians have reached rank 3 with the Vanguard.
  • Only 19.2% of Guardians have completed a Raid.
  • Only 16.9% of Guardians have maxed out a Warlock or Hunter subclass, and just 15.2% have maxed out a Titan subclass.

Granted, we see this in many games, where top-tier content is crafted for only a select handful of players, but I think Destiny’s exclusivity problem is exacerbated by the structure of the core game itself, and it’s something that could be improved upon in future installments.

What I’m talking about is what I’ll call “The Gulf.”

“The Gulf” exists as a space of time between beating the game’s story mode/reaching level 20, which are usually roughly the same time, give or take a few hours, and the promised land “endgame” where players are able to take on pretty much all the content the game has to offer.

In the levels between 20-26 or so, Destiny puts players in a weird sort of purgatory. They’ve beaten the main story so there’s no real way to progress there, other than doing the daily “special” story missions, and they’re trapped in the bottom-to-mid-tiers of the Strike playlist, where rewards are relatively sparse.

Eventually, you get to the promised land. After bridging the Gulf, even if you’re not max level, you still exist in a space where you can reliably save up for Legendary vendor gear, earn enough coins to occasionally buy something from Xur, or see a lot of Engram drops from the Strike playlist. This is a pretty fun place to be, but many players will find themselves swallowed by the Gulf, quitting out of frustration or boredom.

Destiny’s item system is disproportionately skewed toward the late game to the point where the rest of the game is largely pointless before level 20. There are simply no Legendary or Exotics before then. There is no “lower tier” of high end weapons to get players excited.

This is contrary to say, a game like Diablo, where the game has a max level of 70. Destiny power leveling make you upgrade easy, yet players can find Legendary drops at level 5 if they’re lucky, which will be better than whatever they currently have, and make the game more fun. Obviously drop rates increase as time goes on, and Legendary gear gets way more powerful, but at least until then there’s something to look forward to during gameplay.

Finally, the 20% Raid stat makes perfect sense, assuming it’s due to a combination of what we’re talking about above, and a lack of in-game matchmaking for the mode.

It’s probably too late for the game to change many of the things discussed here, but it’s definitely something to think about for the longer term health of the game, and particularly how Destiny 2 is structured. The game needs to put its best foot forward from the start, and being yet another game where “the real game doesn’t start until you beat it” means there will be many, many dropouts along the way.
