Massive Leak Has Revealed Dozens Of New Pieces Of Weaponry And Armor

If you’re curious what new items Bungie has in store for players later this year when Destiny’s next expansion, House of Wolves, releases, wonder no more. A massive leak has revealed dozens of new pieces of weaponry and armor that is supposedly coming later this year, along with new story details about House of Wolves.

Destiny Spoilers Below: Read At Your Own Risk

destiny

The leak comes via Reddit, from a poster named megamanexe4 who claims they’ve found a way to access the as-of-yet unreleased files coming in House of Wolves. The original poster says they are not good at English and appears to have translated their words using Googe Translator. Nobody is quite sure what exactly the OP is saying or how they obtained the files, but it is definitely the real deal, as the post links to dozens of previously never-before-seen items.

First up is a look at the story that will surround the House of Wolves expansion. The OP seems to have found the “Purchase DLC” screen that serves as a preview of the content in the expansion. It gives away a few plot points, mainly that the Awoken Queen’s Fallen soldiers have gone rogue. It will be up to players to hunt down the traitors, which will lead into the new strike and raid included in the DLC.

destiny

Megamanexe4 goes on to link brand new Vanguard and Crucible gear for each class. None of the item names and descriptions are in English, but players can at least get a glimpse at the raw stats of the new gear. There are far too many images to all post here, but here’s a sneak peak at a few of the items players can look forward to. These images are (according to the OP) new Vanguard helmets for each of the classes, as well as new Vanguard weapons.

These new pieces of gear, per the post, look to raise an item’s maximum light level to 39. It also looks like the level requirement for the weekly nightfall strike will be bumped up to level 32, Destiny power leveling let you upgrade easieras.

destiny

Perhaps most interesting of all is the release date for the expansion, according to the post. Previously rumored to be released sometime in March, the OP claims House of Wolves won’t actually release until May. We won’t know for sure until Bungie makes a formal announcement, which may come sooner rather than later in light of the leak.

So what do you think? Do these new pieces of gear look promising? Bungie says they won’t be making the same mistakes in House of Wolves that they did in the game’s first expansion, The Dark Below, namely in how the expansion reset the talents for exotic weapons. Look for Destiny’s House of Wolves expansion to release sometime in the first half of this year.

Destiny: Bungie Will Be Patching Out This Bug In An Upcoming Update

Ready to go on a raid and then all your stored Heavy ammunition that you’ve got on you glitches itself away. Bungie is finally going to address one of the single most annoying bugs in Destiny. Destiny power leveling make your game more convenient.

destiny

Apart from its other technical problems and game mechanics issues, this particular bug has been around for quite some time and has been quite a nuisance at times. The glitch makes a player’s stock of Heavy ammunition to disappear from simple gameplay triggers such as dying, returning to orbit, or viewing unskippable cut scenes. Heavy ammo isn’t always a very commonly dropped item either, unless you have the right equipment or perks on your character.

In fact, a good chunk of your Glimmer will probably be spent on Heavy ammo during the game. This can sometimes make a or break a carefully planned battle (during a raid for instance), making this bug one of Bungie’s most frequently reported glitches right now.

destiny

Destiny’s Sandbox Engineer, Jon Cable, explained in the latest Weekly Update how they’re going about fixing the bug (Q&A style):

Jon: The basic flaw here is an ordering problem. Our inventory system creates your weapons when your characters spawn. When that happens, it tries to restore the same fraction of ammo that you had when you died. The bug occurred because the weapon is created before capacity modifiers from armor perks are applied, so the persisted fraction yields fewer rounds.

Way over my head! Sounds like you’ve identified the issue, though. Any word on why it’s taking so long to resolve?

Jon: Fixing bugs in a live game is always about managing risk. What are the chances that the fix is going to cause an issue that might be worse than the original bug? Players outnumber our testers by factors of several thousand, so if there is a problem that slips through the cracks, it is virtually guaranteed that the community will find it. This bug was mainly risky because it was at the intersection of a lot of different systems – player profiles, investment, sandbox, perks, and weapon management.

Would it be simpler and faster to just fix the affected perk?

Jon: There are a lot of weapon and armor perks in the game. Changing the order of how they are applied has a huge impact. It would have required a large restructuring of the way the game works to even accomplish this, because the armor perks can’t take effect until the weapon is created anyway. The application of armor perks would have to be inserted in between weapon creation and the rest of the weapon setup code.

So, what’s the ultimate solution?

Jon: In the end, I came up with a surgical change that fixes the main issue and minimizes the chances that a new problem would be introduced. I do not think I can overstate the complexity of these systems – it took me several tries to come up with a fix that did not cause other problems.

Destiny: What the Abyss Section of Crota’s End Looks Like with the Lights On

Have you been playing the Crota’s End raid in Destiny since it was release back in December? If so then you know that the section where you must Traverse the Abyss is very dark. Have you ever wondered what that section would look like if the lights were on? Well, Reddit user dummehh recreated the map in a 3-D illustration (see above). In his post on reddit he said, “I wanted to brush up on my 3D work this evening and figured I’d merge it with playing Destiny. Here’s a work-in-progress 3D illustration of the Abyss, sans-darkness-and-fog. There are some great maps out there already but I figured creating an isomeric one might give a better sense of the vertical space…It’s recreated by eye as I ran around, so there might be mistakes or missing bits and bobs that someone might spot, but it should be pretty accurate.”
This must have taken him a while because if you check out the video below, you will see exactly what he was working with to lay out the map.

Destiny: new PvP mode coming soon

MediaHandler

This week, a new multiplayer mode for Destiny will open, called Doubles Skirmish. Bungie calls Doubles the first experiment, as they are testing new modes to create a more exciting multiplayer experience. Here are the details.

Double Skirmish – Slower burn with explosive pockets

The new mode pits Guardians in a 2v2 deathmatch where teamwork is essential to victory. Bungie promises a game mode that will create a slower burn with more explosive pockets. Back in December Bungie did forecast some theoretical game modes, of which Double Skirmish is the first experiment. Two Guardian FireteamsHeavy ammo appears once a matchRevives enabled

Lars Bakken, the lead competitive multiplayer design lead for Destiny states:

“It’s a gun game. Your Supers will come back more slowly because you’re not getting as many actions per minute as you would in a game of Control. The goal here was about taking the rules we already have and mixing them up to create a fresh experience.

Each player has the full weight of winning or losing placed squarely on their shoulders and nobody to blame but themselves… or their teammate. No pressure.” – Source

Because of the 2v2 mode, a Double Down is the most a player can potentially score, which in turn means Space Magic will be at a premium. Players are urged to use it wisely for big plays only, which could turn the Double Skirmish mode into an interesting new addition.

Destiny – Who are the Celebrities Behind the Voices?

Destiny - Who are the Celebrities Behind the Voices?

It’s normal in video game culture for those who show their faces on-screen to lend their voices. While it’s not on the same level as Kevin Spacey’s role in Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, shooter Destiny has its fair share of celebrities, all lending their well-known voices to the game’s variety of characters.

The most notable and obvious actor to lend their voice is Peter Dinklage, known for his role as Tyrion Lannister in HBO series Game of Thrones. He takes the reigns of your Ghost throughout the shooter’s campaign, guiding you through the many missions you undertake. Following the “Wizard came from the moon” fiasco, Dinklage has reaped most of the attention, leaving the rest of the voice cast lingering in the shadows.

So who else entered the booth and brought to life the variety of characters yo interact with on a daily basis? Let’s find out!

Gina Torres – Ikora Rey, Warlock Vanguard
destinyvoice-cast-actors-1

The American actress is well-known around the television scene, starring in established shows Suits, Hannibal, 24 and Huge. The New York native also dabbled in some other video game voice work, these include Transformers Prime: The Game, Lichdom: Battlemage, and recently her role as Ikora Rey in Destiny.

Destiny: night strike is inevitable

Awesome here. You guys know that once a week I do something crazy for all of my fellow Destiny lovers out there. I get up at 3 am to create a walk through video for each weeks Nightfall Strike Mission. This week is no different. So…Because I love you, and Destiny a little to much. Here is this weeks Nightfall Strike Walkthrough. This weeks Nightfall is “Summoning Pits” and the modifiers are:

*Nightfall – If all players die, you will be returned to orbit.

*Epic – Heavily shielded and highly aggressive enemies appear in great numbers.

*LightSwitch – Minions of the Darkness deal much more melee damage.

*Angry – Minions of the Darkness won’t flinch, even after massive damage

*Arc Burn – Arc Damage from any source is greatly increased

The Summoning Pits:

You’ll Start out this strike mission up the hill from the entrance. But you can skip most of this area. So hop on the sparrow and ride past the opening area, with Acolytes and knights. Then sparrow down the stairs and through the room where the Fallen and Hive are fighting. Continue Sparrowing (I know it’s not a verd but you know what I mean) down the stairs and you’ll hit the “Respawn Restricted” Message on your TV. Once you hit that, jump off your Sparrow, and drop Dinkle-bot down on the closed door to the right as you enter the room.

Destiny: What Could it Bring? Crota’s End Hard Mode

Destiny - Crota's End Hard Mode, What Will it Bring?

News filtered through recently that Crota’s End, Destiny power leveling’s newest raid, will finally receive its hard mode difficulty this week. It’s arrival will give Guardians the chance to unlock a range of new weapons and other loot unavailable before, but comes with added challenges and a higher difficulty setting.

We can assume the updated hard mode will bring notable changes to the raid, such differences we saw between the normal and hard modes for Vault of Glass. Unfortunately, apart from the Level 33 rise we don’t know exactly how Bungie plan to spruce up the Hellmouth and make our journey to Crota that little bit more treacherous.

destiny-crotas-end-hard-mode-lamps-1

We can speculate however, try hit that dark mysterious nail on the head.

Crota’s End – Traverse the Abyss

destiny-crotas-end-hard-mode-crota-2
Getting past the persistent and determined Thrall army isn’t an easy task on normal, so we shudder at the though of traversing the abyss on hard mode.

destiny-crotas-end-hard-mode-crota-3

Bungie could have implemented small tweaks to already existing objects, making it more difficult. For example, the lamps you and your fellow Guardians run towards to negate the ‘Weight of Darkness’ buff could burn out quicker, making the journey to the next lamp even slower. Another addition could be the Weight of Darkness buff being increased. It currently stand at X10, but some players have experienced a glitch that raises it to X20, maybe a sign of what’s to come.

What about the bridge, will it take longer to form once you step foot on the circle? Most likely, having you shout profanity at the screen in the hope it will complete faster. At the moment it’s rather easy to complete this area of the section by simply jumping on a rock to evade Thralls and downing one ogre, so the addition of more gun related enemies won’t come as a surprise.

My Biggest Disappointment Of 2014 is winning me back

Forgiving Destiny: why my Biggest Disappointment Of 2014 is winning me back.

Forgiving Destiny: why my Biggest Disappointment Of 2014 is winning me back

For the record, Destiny is still a crushingly disappointing missed opportunity. Bungie had the duty to introduce us to a brand new universe, to get us excited about and engaged with the setting, and they bottled it. I don’t care about the world. I don’t care about the characters. I don’t care about the story. Because, unlike Marathon, Pathways Into Darkness and Halo, Bungie don’t seem to care themselves. As such, it’s incredibly unlikely that I’ll buy into any future sequels, not to mention the offensively overpriced DLC.

Forgiving Destiny: why my Biggest Disappointment Of 2014 is winning me back

I’m also sick and tired of people defending Destiny’s lack of story, RNG loot system and always-on requirements as if it’s an MMO. It’s not an MMO. There’s nothing “massive” about it!

However, as I often point out in reviews, there’s a difference between the game we want and the game we’ve got. The game I’ve got has dragged me back in, at least for the short-term.

Forgiving Destiny: why my Biggest Disappointment Of 2014 is winning me back

Forgiving Destiny: why my Biggest Disappointment Of 2014 is winning me back

Which brings us to the loot. I hate RNG drops and the Light system as much as anyone, but whatever mode I choose, I’m constantly earning experience and upgrades for my gear and subclasses, continually growing in power and more versatile ways to spec my Hunter. And, even though I know better, the cynical slot machine is still an addictive draw when you get a run of good luck… oh gawd, no, even I haven’t quite fallen that far.

But none of that really explains the main reason why I’ve gotten back into Destiny, which I completely missed the first time around. I can’t believe that I’m about to write this, but the fact is that it respects my time and the time of the people I play with.

Forgiving Destiny: why my Biggest Disappointment Of 2014 is winning me back

This seems ridiculously counter-intuitive, I know. Destiny wastes time in a number of painfully obvious ways, not limited to the aggravating loading times, always-online connection voiding the convenience of resume game functionality, the Tower and the obfuscation of progression and items behind the Light system and RNG loot drops.
